Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette

Product:  Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette.  This concealer palette features four colors, three for color correcting and one for highlighting.  This little compact can be a game changer.

Overall Rating = 4 stars4 Stars – Excellent.

Cost: $3.99 (.22 oz.) ($18.14 per ounce)  Price Category: Inexpensive

Sold By:  Wet N Wild Beauty; Walgreen’s; Walmart; Retailers everywhere.

Container:  Round plastic case, twist-off cap.

Description:  Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette is a concealer that corrects discolorations on the skin.

Formula:  Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette is medium-weight cream.  The formula provides light to medium-coverage opacity.  This is not as thick as the Physicians Formula Gentle Cover Concealer Stick I previously reviewed.  If you need serious heavy-duty coverage, that one will work better for you, but you will need to buy the colors individually as opposed to in a palette like this one.

Sensitivity:  Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette is fragrance free and is suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Company Claims:

“From under eye circles to acne to yellow discoloration, this one palette does it all, which pretty much means you should never be without it. Everyone has flaws, and this palette has something for everyone.

Let’s spin the color wheel! This circle of concealers contains all you need to balance out any imperfection in your complexion. It’s beauty’s version of playing with paint, and your face is your coloring book!

  • Circle of concealers balances all imperfections!
  • Purple and yellow are opposites on the color wheel, so use yellow to cancel out any unwanted purple spots, such as bruises or under-eye circles. Any overly yellow spots? Attack them with purple.
  • Green and red are opposites, too. So use green on anything red: zits, flushes, blemishes, you name it!
  • White brightens any color, so whatever part of your face you want to highlight, this is it!”

Discussion:  Most people are very confused by color-correcting concealers, don’t know if they need one and don’t know how to use them properly.  These concealers, unlike flesh-toned concealers, are designed specifically to hide discoloration imperfections like redness from scars or blemishes (with green), sallowness (with lavender), purple-toned undereye circles (with yellow) blue veins (with peach), etc.  If you have any of these issues and you want to achieve a smooth even skin tone and uniform color to your face, then using one of these under your foundation can absolutely work wonders.  Professional makeup artists have always utilized these techniques, but now that the products are readily available to the average consumer, you might as well take advantage of our trademark secrets.

Colors:  Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette comes in one color, 349 Color Commentary.  It contains, purple, green, yellow and white.  They are all matte in finish with the exception of the white, which has a shimmer finish and is intended to be used as a highlighter.  These four colors will work for all light to medium skin-toned users.  These will not work well for those with very dark skin.

What Color Do YOU Need?

The color-correcting concealer I use most frequently on clients is green.  Almost everyone has a slight redness around their noses or a few red-toned blemishes.  Green is the opposite on the color spectrum from red and therefore effectively neutralizes any red pigmentation.  I frequently use yellow, too.  I occasionally use purple for general brightening as opposed to spot concealing.  If you look at the color wheel you can see which colors are opposite and will, therefore, cancel each other out.  Red is a primary color and its complementary opposite is green.  Blue is a primary color and its complementary opposite is orange.  Yellow is a primary color and its complementary opposite is purple.

DON’T Use Lipstick:  I know you see posts and videos all over the internet telling you to put lipstick under your eyes if you have dark circles.  Don’t ever do this!  The ingredients in lipstick can be very harmful to the delicate skin underneath your eyes.  If you need a peach, coral or orange concealer, try Bobbi Brown corrector or the NYX Color Correcting Palette, which has peach in it.  The NYX formula is creamier than the Wet N Wild one.

Daily Review:  After cleansing, toning, moisturizing and priming, apply Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette on any discolored areas prior to the application of foundation.  I apply this with a small detail brush for blemishes or a concealer or foundation brush for larger areas.  I then carefully apply foundation on top of the concealer and set the areas with a finely micronized high definition powder.  Once it is set, the concealer will last for many hours.

Helpful Application Tips and Tricks:

  • If you are accustomed to applying your concealer on top of your foundation, that will not work with a color-correcting concealer. The colors must be applied under foundation not over.
  • Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette will not work as well on blemishes if you apply it with a sponge or your fingers.
  • Use a small concealer, detail, or lipstick brush for application wherever you need concentrated color.
  • The product needs to be concentrated on the specific area of discoloration and nowhere else.
  • If you need to cover a larger area with sheerer coverage, you can use a sponge or your fingers.
  • Be careful when applying foundation on top so as not to remove the concealer.
  • Pat foundation on top of the concealer, don’t rub.
  • If you accidentally rub the concealer off when applying foundation, just dot some more colored concealer on top of the foundation and carefully blend it with the detail brush.
  • If you are having a difficult time covering the colored concealer with foundation, you are using too much of the colored concealer.
  • To keep it in place for hours, set it with a good quality powder.

Overall Review:  Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette is an excellent product for hiding many different types of discoloration issues.

Pros:

  • Four colors address many discoloration issues
  • Medium- weight cream blends easily
  • One compact lasts a long time
  • Takes very little product to cover imperfections
  • Fragrance-free formula
  • Skin-friendly ingredients
  • Inexpensive

Cons:

  • The white “concealer” is not a concealer at all, it is a shimmery highlighter.  The white should have been replaced with a peach-toned concealer.  By virtue of the white having shimmer in it, it cannot effectively be used to lighten the other colors if necessary.

Suitability:  Wet N Wild Coverall Color Correcting Palette is suitable for the following users:

  • All users.  (This is a very good product for men to use as well as women.  I use this on male models, actors and performers.)

Wet N Wild Coverall Primer

Product:  Wet N Wild Coverall Primer.  New to the idea of primer?  Want to dip your toes in the water without much of a financial commitment?  Here is an entry-level formula.

Overall Rating = 3+ stars3.25 Stars – Good.

Cost: $4.68 (.84 fl. oz.) ($5.57 per fluid ounce)  Price Category:  Inexpensive

Sold By:  Walgreen’s; Walmart; Wet N Wild Beauty.

Container:  Plastic squeeze tube, twist-off cap.

Description:  Wet N Wild Coverall Primer helps to properly prepare your skin for foundation.  The company makes some lofty (outrageous) claims for this inexpensive primer.

Formula:  Wet N Wild Coverall Primer is a white liquid and is fairly thin when it comes to primers.  It becomes invisible and clear on the skin very quickly.  It only takes about 10 seconds to be fully absorbed into the skin.  It dries to a soft, almost powdery finish.  It does contain silicones even though water is the first ingredient.

Sensitivity:  Wet N Wild Coverall Primer is fragrance, talc, paraben and dye free and is suitable for those with sensitive skin.  The very light chemical scent dissipates within seconds upon application.  If you are allergic to silicone, stay away from this one.

Company Claims:  (Here we go…)

“Remember when you were a kid, watching fairy tales, wishing you had a magic potion to transform yourself instantly into a glamorous princess? Well, we’re here to make your dreams come true! This miraculous primer can be used all over your face to minimize the appearance of pores, fill in fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin tone, prevent your foundation from caking, and brighten your complexion for ultra-vibrant color that lasts all day. Magic! How does it do this? Because we basically put diamonds in a bottle! No, really, we did. The key ingredient in this miracle primer is white sapphire, formulated into a smooth, silky cream that glides on effortlessly, leaving behind a crystal complexion. Just think of us as your fairy godmother!”

“Magic Potion!

  • Refines Pores
  • Fills Fine Lines
  • Brightens Complexion
  • Evens Skin Tone
  • Made with white sapphire!
  • Provides a perfect surface for ultra-vibrant color that lasts all day
  • Prevents Caking, Creasing, and Smudging”

(Those may be the most ridiculously exaggerated claims ever made by a cosmetics manufacturer.)

Discussion:   If I had never used a primer before I would probably think this one is better than it is.  If you have no experience with primer and you try this one, you will probably like it.  If, on the other hand, you have used a lot of high-end primers, this one may be a bit of a let down.

Whenever I test a new primer I always do so on freshly-cleansed bare skin and you should do the same.  Otherwise, you will not know exactly how your skin is reacting to the product.  Wear the primer by itself one day before you put makeup on top of it.

For my dry skin, I would definitely need to use a moisturizer underneath this primer, as this was drying to me.  If you have oily skin, this may work well for you on bare skin.

Colors:  Wet N Wild Coverall Primer only comes in one color and they don’t have a name for it.

Morning Review:  I applied Wet N Wild Coverall Primer on clean bare skin all over my face.  I then applied makeup to only one side of my face to test how well it helps with makeup longevity.  It is probably the fastest drying primer I have ever used.  You don’t have to wait to apply makeup on top of this the way you do most primers.

Let’s address the Company Claims:

Magic Potion!  (No, there is no magic in this tube.)

  • Refines Pores (Slightly)
  • Fills Fine Lines (No improvement)
  • Brightens Complexion (No change)
  • Evens Skin Tone (No change)
  • Provides A Perfect Surface… (Slightly)
  • Prevents Caking, Creasing, Smudging  (For a little while)

What it did was make my face feel slightly smoother with a dry powdery finish.  My makeup went on smoothly on top of this primer.

Application Tips:  On myself I applied this with my fingers.  On clients, I usually apply primer with a beauty blender sponge.  This primer is so thin it would be easily absorbed by a sponge so fingers work best for this one.  Since this has a lotion consistency, to avoid squeezing out too much product, simply hold the tube with the nozzle pointing upward, not downward.

Evening Review:  There was not much change throughout the day.  My skin did not become drier or oilier because of the Wet N Wild Coverall Primer.  It made a slight difference in helping makeup to go on smoother and last longer.  The second time I tried the primer I put it on top of moisturizer and it worked much better for me that way.  This is not hydrating at all on its own.  I also tried this with different foundations and it did help them all to last about 25% longer than foundations on their own without primer.

Overall Review:  Wet N Wild Coverall Primer imparts a nice silky feeling to the skin, helps makeup go on easier, and adds a little longevity to the wear of foundation.

Pros:

  • Dries almost instantly
  • Applies easily
  • Improves skin texture
  • Adds a little staying power to foundation
  • Removes easily with regular facial cleanser
  • Fragrance, paraben, talc, dye-free formula
  • Feels light on the skin, not heavy

Cons:

  • Is NOT a “Magic Potion”
  • Does not live up to the claims by the manufacturer
  • Does not fill fine lines or wrinkles
  • Is not hydrating
  • Does not do much to smooth the skin like thicker primers do

Suitability:  Wet N Wild Coverall Primer is suitable for the following users:

  • All users.  (Those with dry skin should apply a moisturizer first.)
  • Best for users with oily skin or those who like very light weight products on their skin

Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner

Product:  Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner.  If you tend to cry a lot, this eyeliner might be great for you!  (If you’re skilled with eyeliner, you probably won’t love the brush.)

Overall Rating = 3+ stars3.75 Stars – Very Good

Cost: $3.99 for .17 fl. oz. ($23.47 per fluid ounce)  Price Category: Inexpensive

Sold By: Wet N Wild Beauty; Walgreen’s; Wal-mart; Retailers everywhere.

Container: Plastic bottle with twist-off cap and felt-tip wand, outer carton.

Description: Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner is a very long-lasting liquid eyeliner formula.  The attached applicator is a felt-tip brush, just like the kind in the marker-type eyeliners.  You will need an eye makeup remover to completely get this off.

Sensitivity:  Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner is a fragrance-free product suitable for those with sensitive eyes or contact lenses.  I have never experienced any sensitivity issues personally and I have never had any complaints from clients or testers.

Company Claims:  “Cue the waterworks! This liner provides lasting definition that won’t let you down. It’s waterproof, smudge-proof, and super long-lasting. Use the precise applicator brush to create everything from subtle fine lines to bold dramatic looks.

  • Long-lasting waterproof formula
  • Won’t skip, smudge, or streak”

Discussion:  Wet N Wild is a very inexpensive brand that is readily available at most retail outlets.  Their line has expanded and the quality of their products has improved quite a bit in recent years.

I have always been a huge fan of the cat-eye and winged eyeliner looks and liquid eyeliner is the best formula for that.  I’m constantly buying eyeliners in search of the perfect formula.  I’m also on a quest to try and find an inexpensive one that performs well that I can buy in bulk for each client.

What qualities do I look for in a liquid eyeliner?

  • Nice deep color saturation
  • Ease of application
  • No streaking
  • Good staying power
  • Waterproof or very water resistant
  • No flaking
  • Small flexible applicator that provides good control

This one meets some of my qualifications, but not all.

Colors:  Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner comes in two colors:  879-Black and 880-Dark Brown.  I have not used the Dark Brown.  The Black is a very deep, heavily-pigmented jet black.

Please note:  The packaging has recently changed from a black bottle with a silver applicator to an all-black color scheme and the following colors have been discontinued:  881-Ultra Black; 882-Black Brown; 883-Smoky; and 884-Expresso.  If you see the older colors for sale, check the expiration date as they are old stock, and may not perform as well.  The product I’m reviewing is color 881 which has now been discontinued.

Morning Review:  I always apply liquid eyeliner after primer and shadows and before lashes.  I use liquid eyeliner on the upper eyelids, only, never the lower.  I also do not use liquid eyeliner for tightlining.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the bottle was just how much product was on the brush.  (I’m calling this a brush even though it is technically a felt tip.)  There was way too much product to allow for any kind of control.  I had to wipe quite a bit off on the collar before applying it.  Also, the formula looked very wet and shiny, so I did not think I was going to like it at all as I don’t like eyeliners that dry with a sheen.  The next thing I noticed was how firm the felt tip was.  It is very stiff with no flexibility.  I could not make this eyeliner look good with the attached brush as it made the line too thick.  I then tried it with my own eyeliner brush and was quite impressed at how evenly it went on.  It took a full 90 seconds for it to dry completely.  Once dry, the finish was a beautiful rich matte finish.

Evening Review:  After twelve hours the Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner was still on and did not smudge, fade, flake or cause any irritation issues to my dry skin or sensitive eyes.  My tester with oily skin said it lasted about eight hours on her before it started to fade and smudge a little.  The products did not come off with cleanser and I had to use an eye makeup remover intended for waterproof products.

Overall Review:  Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner is a very good eyeliner formula with a terrible applicator.  This is not such a bad thing for personal use, but I would not buy this one again, as I need something that comes with a good usable applicator for my clients.  If I need to have a stack of separate eyeliner brushes, that defeats the purpose for me.  If you wear a very thick line on your upper lids you may like the applicator.

Pros:

  • Very deep black color
  • Waterproof
  • Stays on extremely well
  • Very Inexpensive
  • For sale at most US retailers

Cons:

  • The rubber liner on the bottle doesn’t clean off the wand part very well so you get too much extra product on it.
  • I have to use a separate brush for application or it gets messy looking.
  • It takes a while for it to dry down completely so you have to be careful not to move your eyes too much or it will transfer to your eyelid.
  • Need more colors available

Users:  Wet N Wild H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner is suitable for the following users:

  • All users
